Following a great kick-off in June, Point Richmond Music's 15th annual free summer concert series continues on Friday, July 8th with MJ’s Brass Boppers from 5:30 to 6:30pm (New Orleans style brass band) and Zydeco Flames (Zydeco) from 6:45 to 8:00pm! In addition to fantastic live music, the concert will feature arts and crafts booths, face-painting for children, opportunity drawings, and dancing in the streets. PRM’s outdoor concert venue is located at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue in historic downtown Point Richmond. Our full 2016 line-up is available at www.pointrichmondmusic.org.

Named Best Outdoor Music Series in 2014 and as an "Absolute Must Do in the East Bay this Summer" by the East Bay Express, the grassroots series has become a Bay Area favorite, with every concert drawing hundreds of people to the historic neighborhood of Point Richmond. Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines, and, new this year, one or two food trucks will set up shop at each concert. Concert-goers can pair food with beverages from Point Richmond Music's no host bar, with proceeds directly supporting the music series. And we're going green this year, serving drinks in reusable and biodegradable cups. If you purchased a reusable cup at the first concert, don't forget to bring it with you!

And one last reminder, please take a few minutes to fill out the East Bay Express' Best of the East Bay online ballot and write in "Point Richmond Music" in the Best Music Festival category. This is a fantastic way to support the people, places and things you love in the East Bay, including us. Voting ends at midnight on Friday, July 8. Click here to fill out the online ballot.

The Bay Area’s only New Orleans style brass band with musicians born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, MJ’s Brass Boppers is a singing and swinging brass-line ready to party at a drop of a dime. Within seconds of hearing MJ’s Brass Boppers you can tell that this is not a group that happens to play a few New Orleans tunes, but rather a band that lives the music, with the second-line beat pulsing through their veins.

Award winning guitarist Kenya (Eric V.) Baker was lead guitarist for British singer/songwriter and Grammy Award winner Joss Stone from 2006-2010, touring internationally. Kenya's band, the Kenya B Trio, plays blues, jazz, funk, soul and R&B. Their jazzy blues and funk original grooves feature sparse vocals, shredding guitar solos, funky bass lines and old skool drumbeats. Kenya (guitar and vocals) is the composer of the band's original music and musical director for the band. His eclectic taste in old-skool music makes it come alive for today's audiences of all ages.   Whether it's blues, mellow jazz, Memphis soul from the famous STaX music label, or classic funk, Kenya's arrangements are a fresh take on familiar artists including Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, BB King, Muddy Waters, Bill Withers, Isley Brothers, Parliament and more. |
