POINT RICHMOND MUSIC’S FREE CONCERT SERIES CONTINUES JULY 8TH WITH REGIONAL FAVORITES MJ’S BRASS BOPPERS AND ZYDECO FLAMES

Nonprofit Arts Group Celebrates Milestone Anniversary — 15th Annual Concert Series in Historic Downtown Point Richmond

Point Richmond, CA, June 15, 2016—Following a great kick off in June, Point Richmond Music's (PRM) 15th annual free summer concert series continues on Friday, July 8th with MJ’s Brass Boppers (New Orleans style brass band) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and Zydeco Flames (Zydeco) from 6:45pm to 7:45pm. Both bands are Northern California favorites in their respective genres. PRM’s outdoor concert venue is located at the corner of Park Place and Washington Avenue in historic downtown Point Richmond.

Concerts are held on the second Friday evening of each month, June through September. Every concert features an opportunity drawing, arts and crafts booths, face-painting for children and dancing in the streets. The 2016 schedule will include a final show on Friday, September 23rd to close the season (detailed line up is below).

PRM’s grassroots series has become a Bay Area favorite, with every concert drawing several hundred people to the historic neighborhood of Point Richmond throughout the season. Local restaurants offer a wide array of cuisines, and, new this year, one or two food trucks will pull up to the street festival. Concert-goers can pair fine food with beverages served in reusable and biodegradable cups from PRM’s no host bar, with proceeds directly supporting the non-profit music series. 5:30 PM-6:30 PM - MJ’s Brass Boppers www.mjsbrassboppersband.com
The Bay Area’s only New Orleans style brass band with musicians born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, MJ’s Brass Boppers is a singing and swinging brass-line ready to party at a drop of a dime. Within seconds of hearing MJ’s Brass Boppers you can tell that this is not a group that happens to play a few New Orleans tunes, but rather a band that lives the music, with the second-line beat pulsing through their veins.

About Point Richmond Music:
Point Richmond Music (PRM) is a 501c3 nonprofit public benefit organization that provides free outdoor summer concerts as a way to build community through the unifying language of music. The all-volunteer committee celebrates diversity and promotes the arts. PRM concerts provide a gathering place for people of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life by featuring musical talent from Richmond, the Bay Area and beyond. PRM exists thanks to the support of local businesses and the volunteers who make it happen.

The idea to create a concert series in downtown Point Richmond originated from Richmond City Council member and current mayor Tom Butt. He made the suggestion in 2001 to Michele Seville (now the Arts & Culture Manager for the City of Richmond) and several other members of the Richmond Arts & Culture Commission as a way to foster community through music and promote local businesses. A small group began to meet and formed Point Richmond Music. Today the PRM Board is: Andrew Butt, Bryan Delaney, Pam deWitt Delaney, Duane Fitzgerald, Bruce Kaplan, Alex Knox, Sydney Metrick, Michele Seville and Christina Zirker.
