Richmond Promise Deadlines Quickly Approaching!
I am very happy to report that the Richmond Promise is off to a strong start, with over 300 students currently enrolled in the online application system and 71 completed applications. Richmond Promise, Inc. Executive Director Jessie Stewart and staff from the City Manager’s Office have been working closely with the WCCUSD and local nonprofits to outreach to students and families and assist them with their applications.
The Richmond City Council voted to include all Richmond residents – whether they attend WCCUSD, charter or private schools – as eligible to receive the Promise and I would like to enlist your support to make sure every eligible student takes advantage of this great opportunity. Council also voted to make sure students will be able to use their award at traditional four year universities and community colleges (for both college courses and career and technical certificates).
Students are eligible for up to $1,500 per year as long as they meet the following criteria:
  ·          Richmond or North Richmond resident for at least four years
  ·          Graduate from a high school within the WCCUSD boundaries (WCCUSD, Charter or Private)
  ·          Attended an eligible school since at least the 9th grade

Two important deadlines are quickly approaching to bring to our students’ attention: FAFSA and CA Dream Act – March 2nd
Students have until this Wednesday, March 2nd to complete either their FAFSA or Dream Act application for financial aid. The Richmond Promise, like almost all Promise programs, operates as a “last dollar” scholarship that compliments a student’s financial aid package. It is mandatory a student submit their Student Aid Report from either the FAFSA or CA Dream Act to complete their Richmond Promise application.Richmond Promise Scholarship Application – March 17th
Thursday, March 17th is the deadline for submitting your Richmond Promise scholarship application. All students must complete the simple online application, and upload copies of their FAFSA or CA Dream Act Student Aid Report along with a copy of their families’ PG&E bill.
Applications and more information are available at www.richmondpromise.org. We are very excited about this opportunity for our students and the Richmond community and want to make sure every eligible student joins the very first class of Richmond Promise scholars!
