Subject: Responding to Increased Violence In Richmond--From the Chief

In light of recent increases in shootings and homicides, I have received multiple requests to discuss what's going on, why it's happening, and how we can best address these challenges.  I have put together the attached letter to address these concerns and to share some of my hopes for the future.  My last day as Chief in Richmond is Jan. 8th.  Interim Chief Allwyn Brown ("AB") will be taking over as the point person from the PD to continue our commitment to violence reduction.  I have a huge degree of confidence in his leadership and I believe the community can come together to turn this trend around.  I wish you all the very best and appreciate the opportunity to have worked with you over the past 10 years.
